Magnatex® Product Data & Application Recommendations

Cementitious products are a rapid set self levelling underlay formulated to achieve a smooth flat surface to meet the fine tolerances required for sheet vinyl, floating timber and large tiles.

General Product Information

Magnatex is a seamless, lightweight floor surfacing compound for use in commercial, industrial and domestic applications - to provide a smooth level surface for other finishing.

Packaging

Magnatex is supplied as a 2 part mix product, the ratio being 2 bags part "A" to 1 bag part "B". This constitutes a pack. 10 packs will make 1M 3 approximately.

Magnatex® is a lightweight product.

Moisture

Magnatex® does not deteriorate when exposed to high humidity levels. Test data is available. After exposure to 85% relative humidity for 7 days there was no dimensional increase.

Note: Magnatex® is not recommended for potential wet areas such as laundries, bathrooms and kitchens.

Appearance & Composition

Magnatex® is a combination of selected lightweight fillers and a highly developed Magnesium cement incorporating corrosion inhibitors that creates a smooth light grey textured finish similar to composite boards.

Tested by National Building Technology Centre, Chatswood, NSW, Australia to Australian Standards 1530 Part 4 1985

Early Fire Hazard Tests/

Tested by National Building Technology Centre, Chatswood, NSW, Australia to Australian Standards 1530 Part 3 1982. Complies with BS 576 Part 7, Class 1.

Sound Absorption

Tested by C.S.I.R.O Highett, Victoria Australia Range Tested from 100-3150- Hz(1/3 octave band) at 30mm thickness.

Strength Testing

Tested by James Hardie & Coy Pty. Ltd. Camellia NSW Australia. Complies with Australian Standards 1170 Part 1.

Magnatex® is NOT subject to, or affected by, fungal attack..

Corrosion

Magnatex® contains inhibitors to prevent the corrosion of ferrous and non ferrous metals under normal conditions.

Supply and Fix Services

Magnatex® offer a speedy, single responsibility supply and fix service at very competitive rates to ensure correct laying procedures are carried out.

Floor Preparation

All surfaces to be coated must be clean - ie. free of all dirt, grease etc and in sound condition. Concrete must be cured for a minimum of 28 days and free of laitance.

Seal area with Bondcrete or equivalent, diluted 3:1 with water.

Tiles and bricks should be prepared as for concrete. All glazed surfaces should be removed. Timber floors must be cleaned of all dirt and grease and be in sound condition.

Any loose boards should be nailed.

Thick Applications

Magnatex® can be successfully laid up to 40mm in one layer. Thickness in excess of 40mm can be laid after previous layer has dried. If more than 12 hours has elapsed between layers, apply a further coat of primer.

Drying

In most cases Magnatex® can be walked on the next day. Prior to subsequent floor finishes being applied, Magnatex® should be fully cured. Cure time will vary with temperature and humidity conditions.

Wet Areas

Magnatex is not recommended for potentially wet areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and laundries. If used it should be completely sealed by an approved method after Magnatex® has completely cured (28 days).

Specifications

The floor levelling material shall be Magnatex® as manufactured by Magnatex® Industries. The sub floor shall be clean and dry with clear access. The floor shall be laid to a depth of …mm. With a finished level to architects specification. The floor area shall be protected from traffic and/or loading for a minimum of 24 hours. Final floor covering shall be applied after a period of 7 days.

The methods recommended in this brochure are formulated along the lines of good building practice and are intended to assist experienced tradesman in the installation of the Magnatex floor levelling system. Magnatex® suggests that qualified layers be engaged to ensure correct laying procedures are carried out. However, the brochure is not intended to be an exhaustive statement of all relevant data. Further, as the successful installation of these systems depends on numerous factors outside the company's control (eg quality of workmanship, particular design requirements, etc) the company accepts no responsibility for or in connection with the quality of the systems, or their suitability for any purpose when installed.
